Our Story

want a high impact garden?

Stunning gardens inspire feelings of tranquility, peace and rest. In the midst of hectic and full lives, a beautiful garden can provide a place of refuge and moment of escape from the outside world. Spending time in a lovely garden helps you clear your mind and calm yourself.

Grass trees are the perfect plant for high impact gardens. Their structural shape is spectacularly powerful. They are super low maintenance and make virtually no mess. They don’t drop any leaves. And once established, they are an extremely hardy exclusively and iconically Australian plant – able to withstand drought, fire, and frost.

My 11 year old grass tree was looking a quite sad & pale. Mitch was very helpful with advice and eventually we decided to use a small blowtorch gently on the trunk. The results have been amazing and my grass tree has never looked better, the trunk is now darker and lots of new green growth as well as a “flower” Thank you so much Mitch for all your patience and expert advice!

I have dealt with Bruinsma Grasstrees since 1994 when Mitch's mum Grace was owner/manager. When we first built our house in Byron Bay we wanted a garden that was native using completely different plants than other people were using in their gardens. Plants such as what were growing wild in the Arakwal National Park ..

We had a great time exploring the huge selection of grasstrees, with Mitch's guidance. Lots of choices. We bought two beautiful grass trees. Delivered without fuss. I am a happy customer!

I recently bought three native grass trees (one a double header) from Mitch and Bruinsma Grasstrees. They are amazing and we just love them. They are settled in well and very easy to look after and everyone who sees them admires them. I was a bit worried about how they would deal with the frost, but it's all good. Thanks Mitch for your continued advice.
